Hey Oppo, I found a link on Jalopnik’s Instagram page that might interest a lot of you. Rory Carroll is on an online panel on October 20 discussing the increased emphasis on digital intellectual property in new cars. Things like a Tesla’s software updates on data collected from GPS, radar cruise control, and in-car cameras.

The event’s online in 2 days; I’ve signed up to join in. There’ll be a live Q&A session at the end too.

Here’s the link to register

It’d be awesome to have a big Oppo presence at this event so we can discuss it here on Oppo afterwards too. Lemme know if you have any questions signing up!

And that’s another of many reasons why I stick with old cars. The “app” is about two inches long, serrated, and made of brass. Sure, it’s “hackable,” but fewer and fewer thieves are likely to bother as time goes by. Especially since the “user interface” of three pedals and a lever with numbers on the top is increasingly unfamiliar.

If a car (or anything for that matter) is collecting information about you for the purpose of selling to third parties, the car is no longer the product. You are the product.

One of the many reasons why I drive a classic car...

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
